RSPCA Doncaster and Rotherham Branch

About us

A proud local history RSPCA Doncaster & Rotherham has been supporting animals and the local community for more than 130 years. Doncaster’s branch was established in 1893, followed by Rotherham in 1896. Today, our animal welfare centre sits along the Great North Road near Bawtry, where we have been a lifeline for animals in need since 1965. Our story is part of a much bigger one. The RSPCA was founded in 1824 as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, receiving its Royal status in 1840. Over the decades, our local branches have grown and evolved into the charity you see today, proudly serving animals across Doncaster, Rotherham and the surrounding areas. At RSPCA Doncaster & Rotherham, everything we do is driven by one simple belief: every animal deserves respect, compassion and the chance of a better life. While we are proud to be part of the RSPCA family, we are also a separately registered charity. We raise more than 95% of our own funds locally to keep our doors open and continue our work. The National RSPCA is responsible for rescuing animals from cruelty and neglect. Our role begins when those animals arrive at our centre. From that moment, we provide the care, rehabilitation and love they need to recover, rebuild their confidence and, where possible, find their forever home. Rescue, rehabilitate, rehome Every year, up to 1,000 animals come through our doors, including dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and smaller animals such as mice and hamsters. Many arrive frightened, injured or traumatised after experiencing cruelty, neglect or abandonment. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to: Support animals through their emotional recovery and help them rebuild trust. Provide veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and daily care. Prepare animals for adoption or, where appropriate, release them back into the wild. Our centre has dedicated spaces for dogs, cats, rabbits and birds, as well as facilities for a wide variety of smaller animals. From the moment an animal arrives, our goal remains the same: to give them the care they need today and the second chance they deserve tomorrow.

Our adoption policy

Browse our adoption pages to see the animals currently looking for their forever homes. Each pet has their own profile, with information about their personality, needs and the type of home they’re looking for. Take a look through our dogs, cats and smaller animals, you never know who might steal your heart! Found someone special? Fill in our Interest Form and we’ll aim to get back to you within 48 hours for a chat. One of our team will be in touch to answer any questions you have and talk you through the next steps.. If your application is a good match, we’ll arrange an appointment for you to meet your chosen animal and spend some time getting to know them. We want the process to be right for everyone, so all members of your household should meet the pet to make sure they’re comfortable together. We know how exciting it is to visit and meet the animals in our care, but their welfare always comes first. To keep things calm and minimise stress, all visits are by appointment. This means our animals can enjoy a quieter environment while still getting the time, care and attention they deserve throughout the adoption process. If you find online applications difficult, don’t worry. You’re welcome to give us a call and arrange a suitable time to visit. Our friendly team can talk you through the animals currently looking for homes and support you through the application process. Once your application has been approved, you’ll complete the adoption paperwork and pay an adoption fee, which helps towards the cost of the veterinary care and support we provide. Then comes the best part — taking your new best friend home! ❤️ All animals adopted from us are: Vet checked Vaccinated Microchipped Neutered or spayed Wormed and flea treated We make sure they’re ready for the next chapter of their lives — and for the happy, loving forever home they deserve.
