Pet Story

Bailey is one of those dogs who will always be a big baby at heart. He is amongst the very best cuddlers at our shelter, basically melting into our laps to receive all the pets and scratchies. Bailey loves working with us and learns fast. He is very eager and would do anything for a treat. Bailey generally gets along with other dogs. If you already have one or more dogs in your home and are thinking of adding Bailey to that pack we'd love to have a chat to make sure everyone's personalities sound like a good match. Though he does not get the chance to go on walks regularly Bailey is familiar with leash and harness and knows some leash-walking basics he would love to improve together with you! On routine trips to the vets Bailey is well-behaved both in the car and in the vet office. However, Bailey does come with some areas that need work. In the past Bailey used to take his time warming up to our male volunteers. This presented mainly as barking at them through the fence. Through slow introductions he always ended up to befriending them after a few meetings. This behaviour is becoming less and less severe and he makes friends both male and female regularly. Bailey can absolutely live in a home with men – it might just take some patience. The other behaviour we've been working on with Bailey is resource guarding when it comes to food. After some negative interactions Bailey perceived as food being taken from him he became increasingly more possessive over his food and bowl. We have worked on this and he has gotten to a point where he does not mind us approaching his food anymore. However this is something to be aware of and potentially needs ongoing work. We are happy to share with you Bailey's progress in more detail if you are interested! Bailey would love to find his person who is willing to work and grow with him – together, as a team. As a reward Bailey will be your best, most loving friend imaginable.
